Many small businesses try to post everywhere and end up tired and inconsistent. A simple plan works better.
1. Pick one or two platforms
Choose where your customers already spend time. Visual businesses often do well on Instagram and TikTok, local services on Facebook, and explainers on YouTube. Start small and add more later.
2. Decide what you want
Write one goal, such as more enquiries, more website visits or more followers in your city. Your goal decides what you post and how you measure it.
3. Use content pillars
Pick three or four repeatable themes:
- Educate: tips and answers to common questions
- Show: your work, products and behind the scenes
- Prove: customer stories and results you can support
- Invite: offers and clear calls to action
4. Create a realistic schedule
Three posts a week that you can keep up are better than daily posts that stop after a month. Batch-create content once a week and schedule it.
5. Reply and engage
Answer comments and messages promptly. Social media is a conversation, and fast replies build trust.
6. Review monthly
Look at which posts got the most saves, shares, clicks and enquiries. Do more of what works and drop what does not.
Keep it honest
Only make claims you can support, and label sponsored content as the platforms and local rules require.
